About PNA

Pacific Northern Academy serves approximately 120 students in Early Childhood through Eighth Grade. We are a project based independent private school located in south Anchorage, Alaska, valuing 21st-century learning principles and advanced, whole child education. PNA’s program also emphasizes visual arts, performing arts, foreign language, and community service.

Summer Camp Instructor

Pacific Northern Academy (PNA) is looking for Summer Camp Instructors for the 2020 summer season for Create Academy summer camp. 

About the Position:

This position is responsible for developing age-differentiated hour-long camp activities relating to the weekly theme, for students in Grades K-6 each day (four class periods per day) as well as acting as a group leader during morning meeting and closing circles.

 

This is a full time, temporary position with 8-hour shifts scheduled between 7 am - 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Camps run from June 1 through July 31, 2020. Staff training will be conducted May 26-29; hours may vary.

The Camp Instructor is responsible for developing and presenting innovative and engaging lessons as well as providing supervision and care to students during the camp day as well as while assisting with Extended Day Program as needed. 

 

Duties will include:

  • Develop and lead fun and engaging project based learning

  • Facilitate activities designed to focus on teamwork, communication, leadership skills, trust, and social development

  • Mentor, support, and empower Activity Staff

  • Support the social-emotional development of the students

  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with parents and students

  • Actively monitor and engage with students during free play time

  • Actively supervise the outdoor playground during break times

  • Maintain the safety and wellbeing of the students

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Other Job Duties:

  • Lead daily morning meetings, large group songs, games, closing circle

  • Communicate effectively with all staff, parents, and children

  • Make children and parents feel welcome

  • Completing necessary documentation; verifying parent or guardian sign out on attendance sheets

  • Be an enthusiastic member of the Create Academy team

Relationships:

This position reports directly to the Camp Director, but may work independently, and as a team, with the Activity Staff. 

 

Equipment Used:

Tools and material related to the creation of art. Training will be provided on Makerspace tools and equipment.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities necessary:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of various forms of creative arts

  • Display a high level of integrity and responsibility

Summer Camp Activity STaff

Pacific Northern Academy (PNA) is looking for Summer Camp Activity Staff for the 2020 summer season for Create Academy summer camp. 

Activity Staff members support the overall camp experience by providing fun and engaging activities that support the safety and social-emotional development of the students.

 

This is a part time, temporary position with scheduled shifts of 7:00 am to 1:00 pm or 12:00 pm to 6:15 pm, Monday through Friday. Camps run from June 1 through July 31, 2020. Staff training will be conducted May 26-29; hours may vary.

 

Camp hours are Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. with morning and afternoon activities from 7:00 a.m.- 6 p.m.  Visit the PNA website www.pacificnorthern.org  for more information about our camp program.

Activity Staff are responsible for providing enrichment activities (arts, crafts, robotics, coding, etc.), supervision, and care to students before and after the main camp day as well as assisting Camp Instructors during the camp day. 

 

Duties will include:

  • Planning, developing, and leading creative activities in the Makerspace

  • Facilitating developmentally-appropriate games and activities

  • Supporting the social-emotional development of the students by mediating conflict, and maintaining an emotionally safe environment

  • Maintaining a positive and professional relationship with parents and students

  • Actively monitoring and engaging with students during free play time

  • Actively supervising the outdoor playground, Makerspace, gym

  • Prep and clean up of activities and Makerspace as directed

  • Assisting Camp Instructor during lessons

  • Photographing camp activities and blogging on camp website

  • Maintaining the Makerspace inventory

  • Appling firm, yet fair discipline

Other Job Duties:

  • Communicate effectively with all staff, parents, and children

Demonstrate knowledge of of Alaskan flora, fauna and animal safety

First Aid/ CPR certified

Demonstrate genuine concern, kindness, and respect to all staff, parents and children

Bachelor’s Degree or college credits in Outdoor Education or Education related field

extended day program instructor

Pacific Northern Academy is looking for a qualified Extended Day Program Instructor to work in our before and after school program daily       (Monday- Friday) from 7:30 am - 9:30 am and/or 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. 

 

The duties of the Extended Day Program Instructor are as follows:

  • Planning and leading games, activities, and crafts
  • Monitoring the safety and well-being of students 

  • Positively interacting with parents at drop-off and pick-up

  • Cleaning and sanitizing room and materials used each date

  • Attending all mandatory staff meetings and trainings

 

Educational Background: Two years of college in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field OR a CDA Credential is preferred.

 

Essential Job Functions: Essential job functions include communication and organizational skills along with the physical ability to bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 40 lbs as necessary to meet the needs of young children.

This is a part-time position, and is not eligible for benefits. 

 

Compensation: $15+ per hour.

Enrichment Instructors 

Are you an artist, inventor, coach or tech-savvy person who loves teaching kids? Then we are looking for you. PNA is seeking individuals or organizations to provide enrichment classes for students after school, on weekends and during school breaks. As a PNA Enrichment Program Instructor are responsible for organizing and facilitating classes focused on your contracted activity. Preparation time may be necessary outside of the course time. You are expected to facilitate snacks and carry out courses as scheduled.
