Just a handful of our teachers this year! Top Left: Elizabeth Ferry (5th/6th Grade), Hali Tuomi (1st Grade), Jessica Graham (3rd Grade), Karl Boehmer (Math) Bottom Left: Martina Henke (4th Grade), Marcella Hitchcock (2nd Grade), Michelle Whaley (Spanish), and Sarah Mariner (7th/8th Grade).

As summer comes to a close and we begin the 2020-2021 school year, many of us can speak to the adjustments made to our typical routines. For students, teachers, parents, and guardians everything is going to be different. During this uncertain time in our world, we can all rest assured that PNA’s commitment to educate students to be exceptional learners and independent thinkers of vision, courage, and integrity remains true. The change might be uncomfortable at first, but as a community we will get through this together.

One thread keeping us together is our amazing teachers! We couldn’t do what we do without them. In the last week and a half they have all been busy preparing for the start of school, which called for extra flexibility as they adapt to COVID-19 protocols. This included organizing their classrooms to support social distancing, adjusting project based learning plans, as well as sanitizing equipment and surfaces. As if our teachers didn’t do a ton already!

Take a look at some of the classrooms: Elizabeth Ferry (5th/6th Grade), Jessica Graham (3rd Grade), and Martina Henke (4th Grade).

We have several returning teachers, as well as some new faces. All of whom have varying professional and personal experiences that make them well equipped to present a flood of knowledge. Something special about PNA teachers is their approach to learning alongside our students, thus creating a supportive and collaborative atmosphere. Once again, we are all in this together!

With COVID-19 presenting some new obstacles with how our students and faculty interact, each teacher is faced with the task of coming up with creative solutions to our shared problems. How can we collaborate in a socially distanced way? How do we share supplies and equipment? How can we utilize project based learning to solve these questions? There are many unpredictable elements to this problem, reminding us to remain flexible in these times of uncertainty.

Some views from the first week of school! Kids and staff work together to adapt to the school procedures.

By providing school in person, our hope at PNA is that we can give our students a sense of security through familiarity of place, as well as through personal connection. By following our strict COVID-19 mitigation plan, taking personal precaution outside of school, and being mindful citizens we can beat this together. Here’s to a new school year filled with excitement, curiosity, and engagement!

HUGE thank you to our teachers for making this all possible!
