Elementary School Teacher needed to provide academic instruction to students at elementary level basic academic, social, and other formative skills. Responsible for preparing course objectives and study outlines following the curriculum requirements. Plan and demonstrate strategies for developmental objectives and required knowledge. Conduct a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time. Prepare materials for classroom activities. Prepare and administer tests to evaluate students' progress.

Summer Outdoor Ed Instructor

This position is responsible for developing and leading hour-long outdoor ed activities for students in Grades K, 1-3, 4-6 each day and for students and occasionally students in Grades 7-9. This is a part time, temporary position with scheduled hours between 9:00 a.m.- 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Camp run from June 5 through August 4, 2017. Staff training will be conducted May 30-June 2; hours may vary. Camp hours are Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. with morning and afternoon activities from 7:30 a.m.- 6 p.m.

Duties will include:

  • Facilitate games and activities in gym, playground or in nearby forest
  • Facilitate activities designed to focus on teamwork, communication, leadership skills, trust, and social development
  • Lead nature hikes, teamwork initiatives, low ropes activities, orienteering, geocaching, etc.
  • Inspire curiosity about our natural world through inquisitive discovery based activities in our natural surroundings
  • Mentor, support, and empower activity staff
  • Support the social-emotional development of the students
  • Maintain a positive and professional relationship with parents and students
  • Actively monitor and engage with students during free play time
  • Actively supervise the outdoor playground
  • Maintain the safety and wellbeing of the students
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary
The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of of Alaskan flora and fauna and bear and moose safety
  • First Aid/ CPR certified
  • Demonstrate genuine concern, kindness, and respect to all staff, parents and children
  • Display a high level of integrity and responsibility
  • Teach youth in a respectful manner
  • Lead youth and empower them to make "good" choices
  • Apply firm, yet fair discipline
  • Able to make children and parents alike, feel welcome
  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently as well as effectively contribute as part of a team

Required Qualifications: Experience leading outdoor education activities- orienteering, low ropes, hiking, cooperative games, etc. with youth

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Clean background check
Ability to lift 35 pounds

Possesses adequate vision, hearing acuity, physical ability, strength and stamina to perform the required responsibilities of activities associated with program delivery

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or college credits in Outdoor Education or Education related field

Adult/Pediatric First Aid/ CPR certified

This is a part-time position, and is not eligible for benefits.

Compensation: $20 per hour.

Summer Early Childhood Program Teacher Assistants

Pacific Northern Academy is looking for highly qualified Teacher Assistants to work in the Pint-sized Panthers Camp for 3-4 year old students. Two shifts are available- 7:15 am- 1:45 pm and 11:30-6:00 pm, Monday-Friday. This position starts May 25 and continues until August 4. It has the potential to continue through the school year.

The duties of the Teacher Assistant are as follows:

  • Implementing developmentally-appropriate curriculum set by the Classroom Teachers and PNA
  • supporting the social and emotional development of the children
  • helping children build independence with personal care skills
  • maintaining positive and professional relationships with families

Educational Background: This position requires at least 2 years of college in early childhood education, elementary education, child development, or a related field OR a CDA Credential. Prior experience is preferred.

Essential Job Functions: Essential job functions include communication and organizational skills along with the physical abilities to bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 40 lbs as necessary to meet the needs of young children.

This is a part-time position, and is not eligible for benefits.

Compensation: $14+ per hour.

After School Activity Staff

PNA is seeking Activity Staff for the after school portion of our Extended Day Program (EDP). This position works primarily with students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The hours are 3:00-6:00 p.m., Monday-Friday for the duration of the school year. This position begins immediately and ends on May 24, 2017 but could extend into the summer. Additional hours may be available during school breaks and in-service days.

The duties are as follows: plan and lead games, activities and crafts, assist with snack time, actively monitor and engage with students during free play time, actively supervise the outdoor playground, monitor the safety and well-being of the students positively interact with parents and students, clean and sanitize room and materials used each day, attend all mandatory staff meetings and training (all staff must complete 20 hours of additional training per year) and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include: Experience working with school age children or adolescence, must be a minimum of 18 years of age and able to pass background check. Experience in education and/or pursuing a degree in education or a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is preferred.

Essential Functions: Possesses adequate vision, hearing acuity, physical ability, strength and stamina to perform the required responsibilities of activities associated with program delivery including the ability to lift and carry up to 35 lb. The work environment involves daily exposure to weather elements.

Enrichment Instructors

Are you an artist, inventor, coach or tech savvy person who loves teaching kids? Then we are looking for you. PNA is seeking individuals or organizations to provide enrichment classes for students after school, on weekends and school breaks. As a PNA Enrichment Program Instructor are responsible for organizing and facilitating classes focused on your contracted activity. Preparation time may be necessary outside of the course time. You are expected to facilitate snacks and carry out courses as scheduled.
